About Maple City Chapel

BELONG, BELIEVE, BECOME

Maple City Chapel is an evangelical, interdenominational church with anabaptist roots that welcomes people from a variety of beliefs and backgrounds. Our worship is contemporary and energizing. Our teaching is bible-based, Christ-centered, and life-giving. Our atmosphere is warm, accepting and casual.

We highly value our relationships with one another. We seek to grow through relationship with each other and ultimately grow closer to God. We value the word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.

OUR HISTORY
LEAPS OF FAITH

  1. In 1971, Pastor Mel Shetler started Teen Haven, a youth center on Washington Street in downtown Goshen, Indiana. As the youth center grew, a church was established to disciple the young people who became followers of Christ. The first service was held on September 5, 1971.
  2. The city of Goshen is known as the “Maple City” because of its beautiful, maple tree-lined streets. In July 1974 the name Maple City Chapel was chosen to reflect the church’s location in the heart of the city of Goshen.
  3. In 1982 the church purchased the former Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church at 423 East Jefferson Street. Over the next 20 years, the church experienced steady growth.
  4. Through a variety of miraculous circumstances, Maple City Chapel purchased the former Wal-Mart/Hollywood Connection building on the southeast side of Goshen. After some minor renovations, the church opened its doors to the community in its new location on July 27, 2003.
  5. In October 2011, after 40 years of leadership, Pastor Mel Shetler transitioned out of the role of senior pastor, and his son, Dr. Jay Shetler, was installed as the new lead pastor.
  6. The church began a 3-year capital campaign in 2016 called Operation Next: Extending Our Reach to the Next Generation. The amazingly generous response from the church has allowed us to make critical facility improvements, resulting in increased ministry opportunities and greater community impact.
  7. In 2021, our church stepped in faith into another major campaign, called the ONE Campaign focusing on making our space even more welcoming for our community. Reconstruction of our main auditorium, the addition of a back parking lot, and the additional entrance were completed by the end of 2022.
