WHO WE ARE

Real people navigating real life, finding hope, purpose, and community in Jesus.

We've been creating space for people who don't fit the mold since 1971. What began when a young leader saw counter-cultural youth being turned away from traditional churches has evolved into something remarkable & enduring. We understand life gets messy. Relationships break. Questions arise. Doubts surface. Mental health struggles intensify. Finding a safe place to work through it all can feel impossible.

That's precisely why we're here.

Our blend of psychological insight & genuine care creates a sanctuary where both healing and growth can happen naturally. Instead of quick answers or judgment, we bring curious conversations. Instead of pressure to conform, we deliver freedom to explore.

Mission

Belong. Believe. Become.

Vision

In a world where many settle for spiritual checklists, we're creating a community where your life story matters: mind, body, relationships, and spirit. Healing takes courage, but you shouldn't have to do it alone.

We don't spiritually bypass with "church talk" when life gets messy. Instead, we linger in the tension, helping you bring your broken parts out of hiding and discover that Jesus doesn't discard broken things. He restores them.

Here, doubt isn't the enemy. Stagnation is. We're all imperfectly, graciously, and intentionally becoming holy and whole together, because we believe the difference between surviving and thriving lies in how we engage our complete story. You’ll find a community committed to walking with you toward wholeness, hope, and a faith that feels honest and alive.

OUR HISTORY

1971 - Pastor Mel Shetler started Teen Haven, a youth center on Washington Street in downtown Goshen, Indiana. As Teen Haven grew, a church was established to disciple the young people who became followers of Christ. The first service was held on September 5, 1971.
1974 - The city of Goshen is known as the “Maple City” because of its beautiful, maple tree-lined streets. In July 1974 the name Maple City Chapel was chosen to reflect our location in the heart of the city of Goshen.
1982 - We purchased the former Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church at 423 East Jefferson Street. There, we met for 20 years, growing in our mission and vision that we carry on to this day.
2003 - Through a variety of miraculous circumstances, we purchased the former Wal-Mart/Hollywood Connection building on the southeast side of Goshen. After some minor renovations, we opened our doors to the community in our new location on July 27, 2003.
2011 - In October 2011, after 40 years of leadership, Pastor Mel Shetler transitioned out of the role of senior pastor, and his son, Dr. Jay Shetler, was installed as the new lead pastor.
2021 - MCC launched a remodel project focusing on making our space larger and more welcoming for our community. Reconstruction of our main auditorium, the addition of a back parking lot, and the additional entrance were completed by the end of 2022.  It's a joy to see what God does in our building both on Sunday mornings and throughout the week.
